Sydney now has an awesome Prince mural

While the rest of us spent the weekend loudly blaring our favourite Prince albums (Dirty Mind, and not just because that wonderful cover is how I always feel on the inside), Sydney artist Graham Hoete, aka Mr G, gave us all a more permanent tribute: a large street mural celebrating the legend.

The mural, located at Street University in Liverpool in Sydney's West, is inspired by the late musician's iconic 'Purple Rain', and depicts Prince on a purple backdrop with eyes closed and raindrops falling.

"RIP PRINCE! 'Purple Rain' Tribute to one of my fav artists, a creative genius and all time legend who was a major influence throughout my childhood and life," Hoete wrote in a Facebook post announcing the work.

According to a follow-up post, the mural has understandably become an instant shrine, with fans already visiting the site and laying down flowers in tribute to the late musician.

After the controversy surrounding some other recent Sydney street art, it's good to have one we can all get behind. I give it about a week before that sidewalk is covered in pancakes.
